Cool link!

I have a couple of books on pole construction.  I think pole structures are the smart way to fly.  Cheap, quick and, in the right places, using local materials.

Right now, you would be having a hard time finding a loan for an already built conventional home.

All you would have to do is ask at your bank, just informally. You might want to specify that it would be a couple of years down the road, waiting for the banking industry to settle.

getting a bit of experience building a garage structure and then going to determine whether its something that we can do ourselves by our boot straps and not get a bank involved. we'll see!

Building an initial structure is an excellent idea.  You can gain experience, perfect your techniques, and have a place to safely store your house-building materials.

A few years back, a guy had a bunch of lumber delivered to his house site (he lived elsewhere).  Someone came and took all of it. Kind of made me wonder about the person who delivered it...  The paper said they had to have had a boom truck to take it.

boy would I be ticked off! a guy that lives across from us now started with just a privacy fenced area for his stuff. built a garage for his stuff and then bit by bit built his house on top. he still does works on it off and on. built another room on the back last year. I have alot of respect for him for that.
