High Country Conservancy is seeking applications for AmeriCorps Project Conserve. This position is a conservation-oriented AmeriCorps position with High Country Conservancy working to conserve land in Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties. Members receive a taxable living stipend of $11,400. Some members have student loans that are eligible for deferment. Additionally, interest accrued on student loans during the term of service is paid after successful completion of service. Members will also be eligible to receive a $4,725 educational award to be used within 7 years of service completion. Members also receive health insurance benefits and are eligible for childcare assistance (if needed).

Position Requirements
-A minimum of two years of college experience, work/volunteer experience, or a combination of both
-Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team
-Possess initiative
-Demonstrated commitment to community service and/or conservation service
-Requires full-time service without outside commitments
-Have reliable transportation
-Ability to perform physical labor
-Status as a U.S. citizen or legal alien
-Must be 18 years or older
-Must be available between September 2, 2008 and July 31, 2009
-Additional requirements are specified in job description at High Country Conservancy

General Summary
The AmeriCorps Land Protection Assistant will assist the High Country Conservancy’s Land Protection Director with landowner outreach, land preservation projects, conservation easement monitoring, leading hikes aimed at promoting our land conservation work to the general public, preparation for LTA Accreditation and organizing volunteers for clean-up projects and stewardship of our lands.
