Browning founded Rocky Mountain Institute's Green Development Services; a program that researches and provides consulting on environmentally responsive real estate development. His consulting projects include new towns, resorts, building renovations, a bug zoo, Wal-Mart's Eco-mart, the Grand Canyon National Park, Lucasfilm’s Letterman Digital Center, the Pentagon Renovation, and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Village. He is a co-author of Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Greening the Building and the Bottom Line, a study of increased worker productivity in energy-efficient buildings. In 1998 he was named one of five people “Making a Difference” by Buildings magazine. Green Development Services was awarded the 1999 President’s Council for Sustainable Development/Renew America Prize.
