http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/01/opinion/01hedin.html?_r=2&ex=1362114000&en=3d2c87b956499ea3&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Fascinating article in the New York Times today about how the federal government and big farms are making it extremely difficult for the (growing) local food movement to succeed.

I, for one, have always been fascinated by the power inherent in the local food movement. Once a community can feed itself, it creates a kind of local power and independence that is unmatched by anything else.

In my mind, it's tragic to see something that would contribute to more sustainable living all across America in danger of being squashed.

Have any of you run into bureaucracy that is unique to your small/organic practices? What are the best ways to support local farming?

I havent had any problems locally where I live yet. But the best way to support the local food movement is to buy from local farmers in your area. Supporting the small guy instead of industrial ag helps keep money in your local region and keeps a small family farm farming for many years to come.Check here to find local small farms near you.
