I'd like to suggest that we meet again at the Washington Park Arboretum. It was such a great learning experience the first time, and it would be nice to continue where we left off. I know Arthur is quite busy, but perhaps those of us who are interested could meet with some identification books and do the best we can to identify some new plants. Is anyone interested?

I know that I am interested. And I have a friend from Australia I told about our last trip and he would like to go on the next.
If we plan it two or more weeks in advance, we can get the word out to the seattle permaculture guild - I suspect that there will be a lot more interest.

I am interested as well. The Arboretum would be a great place to wander through and share information that we have amongst ourselves.

Hi, So glad someone said something. I'm missing you all! I think meeting would be great - just to keep the momentum going. I also feel like we need to come up with some kind of balance so that it doesn't feel like Arthur is putting out all of the energy. Maybe passing of a hat to pay for his dinner the night of the meeting. Any ideas. I really appreciate this group and its potential.

Yes, please let's keep the momentum going!
I haven't been able to make it to any of the events so far, so I don't have a feel for how they went. But I'm all for the idea of having a group-led sort of outing, in which we hike along and anyone would just pipe up if they see something they know about.
The arboretum seems good for this.
I know it's far off, but what about the 2nd week of september? That would give us plenty of time to get organized....

It seems someone needs to suggest a date and time, so I will. How about Saturday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Washington Park Arboretum? We could meet near the Vistors' Center. That gives us almost two weeks notice. We could also meet in mid-September, maybe at Seward Park. How about Sunday, September 9th, at 2 p.m. in Seward Park?
I'm sure these dates will work for some and not for others, but if several people write back agreeing on the dates, I think we should go ahead and plan to meet.
I'm also looking into organizing a work party for the Meadowbrook Edibles Arboretum. I don't really know anything about organizing this kind of thing, so if anyone has suggestions or would be willing to help me, that would be great!
Like many of you said, this is such an exciting group. Let's keep it up!

Hi, I'm a retailer and weekend days are rough to get off. If it is on a weekend Saturday works better than Sunday. Evenings have been working great but it is going to be getting darker earlier. Hmph.
Nice to think about it comming sooner than later though - I like the Idea of an August date.

August 25 sounds good to me. Sep 9 sounds good too.
Should we just say that these are the dates? Do we have some folks with at least a little expertise coming?
I would be up for putting up five bucks to buy Arthur some food afterward.

Okay, let's meet on Saturday, August 25th at 6 p.m. at the Washington Park Arboretum Visitor's Center. Jean, if you get there late, it's no problem. Just give me a call on my cell phone (206) 371-7944 and I'll let you know where we are.
I've contacted Arthur and he says he can't commit to anything right now. He's incredibly busy. So, I say we meet and share what we know. There seem to be few experts in the group, but I don't think that should stop us.
It's not that hard to look up something in an identification book, and lots of the plants are labeled.
So, mark your calendars for Saturday, August 25th and invite anyone who may be interested!

Let's also plan on meeting at Seward Park on Sunday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m. We can meet in front of the Seward Park Art Studio, which is on the left near the entrance to the park.
Paul, thanks for putting an invitation in the newsletter. If it's still possible, it would be great to include the September 9th foray too.

(ah damn! I missed the gathering! I put the info into the SPG calendar, but I forgot to put it my calendar!)
This thread is probably the best place for the latest info. This is where the planning happens.
Sometimes a mailing is sent out.
We're going to try to make sure that this info always gets to the seattle permaculture guild newsletter event list thing.
SPG does have a mailing that goes out every week or so to remind people about upcoming events.

At the last meeting, I invited people over to my house after the next plant walk (Seward Park, Sept. 9, 2 pm, meeting at the art studio). I live about a mile south of the park and have a large permaculture garden with lots of "wild" edibles like Cornus mas, aronia, viburnum cranberries. We talked about having a wild edibles potluck, not necessarily a meal, but tastes of dishes with wild foods. Can we have a show of hands here for who is interested, so we can see if it's worth making and bringing food to share? (If people don't want to come to my house, I could bring samples of these foods to the park.)

This walk is not at the Arboretum but at Seward Park in southeast Seattle, on Lake Washington at the base of Orcas Street. Go in the main entrance of the park, follow the road to the left, meet at the Art Studio. The #39 bus will drop you off just a block from there, coming from downtown or SoDo. (Oops, better check Metro to make sure it runs on Sundays.)
Paul, fine with me if you bring garden food instead of wild food. Let's see who else responds and if there is enough interest to make it happen.

I spoke to the gardener in SE Dist. about the Garry Oaks at Martha Washington Park. She told me she was just worrying about them today & is eager to hear from you. She is having the crew use a piece of equiptment to mow down some of the blackberries to get to the site. Her email is heidi.narte@seattle.gov
