Does anyone happen to know a good source for Organic Straw in the Seattle/Mt. Vernon/Bellingham area? Occasionally we need some for a variety of projects. We used to get it from a Canadian Company, but it is no longer available.

Anyone know of a closer source?

The trick is the price.

How much are you looking for?

Are you looking for clean straw or is moldy/funky straw okay?

Will hay work?

The last load of moldy hay I got was from searching for the "nickel ads" just north of seattle.  And then search for "alfalfa".  Then start calling all those folks and asking them about what they have and where they got it.

I'm hoping to find fresh, organic straw for mushroom propagation (although I suspect non-organic straw would probably be just fine since oyster mushrooms seem to render pesticides inert). I know we can get non-organic straw in Mount Vernon. I would just rather support an organic grain grower (if there are any west of the Cascades).

Sometimes we need straw for natural building projects as well. Either way fresh (and funk-free) is what we're looking for.

Right now I just need 2 bales for the mushrooms.

However, I'd like to find a source to use in the future as well since we may do more slip straw building.

The bale of straw I have now is organic.  I got it from a funky little garden shop in ballard.  On leary I think.  A block or two from the ballard bridge.
