Why is my sidewalk Wet | (Read 90 times) |

Hi All,
I am noticing that during certain days (example foggy days), the sidewalk next to my lawn is wet and none of my neighbors lawn is wet during the same time. The wet side walk actually stops where my lawn ends and my neighbors lawn begins on either side. Its just like someone turned on the sprinklers just on my lawn, but I do not have a sprinkler system.
I core aerated the lawn and used Ringer Lawn restore organic fertilizer in early October and have not done anything else. I am very new to lawns and use a cordless mower to cut grass to the highest height possible.
Can someone throw in some theories before I call my city-water for broken pipes or something.?

your lawn, due to more aeration and better biological activity (organic fert, and perhaps your not biocide happy with anti-weed sprays, etc), is likely more humid than your neighbors.
it is possible that if your lawns are slightly upslope (just an inch or two over 50' can make a difference) that the condensation of dew ( fog is typically bottlenecked vapor trying to condense or evaporate) and your wet sidewalks are simply your lawn respiring.
the dead lawns next door, salted with chimcal fertilizers and weed and pest control rich, are biolgical wastelands that do not respire well, so create no dew.
that said, call the city and tell them you wonder if a waterline checkup is in order-its a least cost prevention - once you know its not an expensive or timely fix, you can start looking at it as an oppertunity to harvest the water for functional production.

A high water bill would only indicate a leak on the house side of the water meter, which is almost always in the house. A street side break would be the most likely event here, and wouldn't show up in the water bill. That is if it is a water line break.
Check with the utility. Usually, at least around here, it is the Utility's responsibility for leaks on the street side of the meter.
