I saw this a couple of months ago.  Cuba suddenly lost something like 95% of its petroleum when Russia's communist system went away.    Suddenly they have no petroleum based fertilizers or fuel for tractors.

There's been a rumor going around for years that without petroleum fertilizers and fuel for ag equipment, we would starve!  I think this movie proves that theory wrong.

Interesting,

I just attended a showing of the same film out in Snohomish, the same night!

I also saw this film a few months ago, and I have a friend who spends quite a bit of time in Cuba and has for several years.  One of the things mentioned by the film, and corroborated by my friend was that most of the people in Cuba lost an average of 20lbs/person during the initial transition, largely as a result of having to completely change their transportation system to one based primarily on either walking or bicycling, and while that was a major hardship for the elderly and the disabled, in the long run it resulted in a significantly healthier population overall.  And clearly returning to grassroots urban organic gardening/farming where large numbers of the population were raising their own food also contributed to people being much healthier...

Could someone post the movie name? The calendar has no archives.

As well, does anyone have any other great film recommendations (along the lines of this forum wink.

Here is mine: has anyone seen Mindwalk (http://www.fritjofcapra.net/mindwalk.html). A brilliantly (imho) written dialogue examining interconnectedness (social, environmental, and otherwise). Unfortunately, it is only offered on VHS.

The movie mentioned above:

Great film recommendations:  The sepp holzer movies.  We're working on showing them in august.

Also "The Man Who Planted Trees"

I have not seen mindwalk.
