I went to the seattle tilth plant sale the other day.  It was my first time there.  I was told to make sure to get there early or else all the tomatoes would be gone!

I got there shortly after the plant sale started.  There was a huge line for folks wanting to buy stuff!  So I wandered over to the really cool gardens they have there.  There was a woman giving a talk on plating guilds under fruit trees (one of my favorite topics!).  I hung out at that for a while.  Then spotted some friends and visited a bit and then .....   no more line!  Woohoo!

I bought a bunch of stuff.  Plenty of tomatoes and peppers.  Including my favorite cherry tomato:  "Matt's Wild Cherry" - it's a little obscure so I was surprised to see it there!

What a great time!  And soooooo many people!

I think next year I need to figure something out so that I can hang out the whole weekend.

The way they have set it up in years past, if you sign up ahead of time for a volunteer shift, you can attend a friday night plant sale for "volunteers only". Then you can hangout on the weekend, and not have to worry about standing inline.

They've asked me to present something in the fall.  I wonder if that would give me a coupon to come to the early sale?!

I thought the late sale was fine - I was able to get everything I wanted and then some.

Very well organized.  Great crowd.  I kinda wished there was opportunity to sit and visit with such a huge group of gardeners.

I think that for the purposes of the sale, volunteering at the sale is what's required, but perhaps a Tilth member could clarify that...

Hi there,

I'm new to this site so pardon my 6 month late response!  Great site, anyway, I'm an active member at tilth and the way to "hang out" the whole weekend with all the gardeners is to volunteer.  When it comes time to get volunteers for the plant sale you can sign up for a volunteer shift and choose from a whole slough of jobs from helping people choose plants, to selling compost, to just singing in other volunteers - there's a wide variety of jobs!   It's quite fun, you hang out with hundreds of other gardeners aka volunteers, and there is always a post plant sale party in the green house afterwards.   My first Tilth plant sale was much like yours and I've been volunteering ever since, the people are great and so is the gardening, it's really the best way to get involved.
