Hi Paul !!! That is so true. My wife and I are planning to move there in a couple of years. Her parents live in the lovely town of LaConner. We will probably be in the Bellingham area. That is all for now. Thanks for the great website.

Hi Paul: I am a newbie from South Sound. I want to learn and grow. I started as a chemical gardener in the late 80's. This was because I had grown up rather organically and did not know much about why. My first garden to be honest I turned into a chemical waste dump and probably exposed myself (and my family) as well to bad stuff. I started reading and researching and the light bulb went on when I experienced what natural compost could do. Then I met Sam Benowitz of Raintree Nursery among others, Seattle Tilth, and Russell Link, Organic Gardening I then began gardening/landscaping organically. I have watched the NW become developed in a way that we never dreamed could happen. Planning has become a crucial point for our survival. I am concerned about Homeland Security from a sustainable standpoint. If we do not have food and clean drinking water no amount of money is going to matter. No amount of green lawn is going to matter if we cannot feed our children and not make them sick. I want to take permaculture classes to understand the design concepts. I am hoping to learn much from this site. Thank you. Sunny

The primary function of my lawn care page is to try to convince those that want a lawn to not use chemicals. I suspect that over all the years that I've had that page up, there are now hundreds of tons less chemicals used.
Pus, a lawn can help a lot with play.
That said, I have converted an awful lot of lawn to garden over the years.
There are lots of excellent permaculture courses offered all over the pacific northwest. I took one not far from you - at the sahale retreat center. I don't think PDCs are offered there any more. I visited the bullock farm a couple of times this year - they have excellent permaculture stuff happening there and some first rate teachers. I think their course might be happening right now.
