Another opportunity to see this wonderful presentation by intentional community author and expert, Diana Leafe Christian, in Snohomish (northeast of Seattle - just north of Maltby) at the cohousing community Sharingwood. Potluck at 6:00 p.m., slideshow at 7:00 p.m.

June 29th, 7:00 p.m., with author, Diana Leafe Christian
SNOHOMISH – Sharingwood Cohousing Community, http://sharingwood.org, hosts the well-known ecovillages and intentional community author, Diana Leafe Christian, www.dianaleafechristian.org, for a slideshow titled "Sustainable Living in Community: Ecovillages, Transition Towns, & More" on Monday, June 29th, 2009. This event is free and open to the wider community, with a potluck at 6:00 p.m., and the slideshow starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sharingwood’s Common House, 22105 East Lost Lake Road, Snohomish, 98296.
According to Christian, “ecovillages are urban or rural communities of people who strive to integrate a supportive social environment with a low-impact way of life.”
Christian is the author of Finding Community and Creating a Life Together, two of the most widely read books on intentional communities. She also publishes a free, bimonthly Ecovillages newsletter available online at www.ecovillagenews.org. The goal of the newsletter, and the slideshow, is to stimulate more interest in ecovillages in North America, with pictures, stories, and examples of ecovillages from all over the world. Christian’s slideshow presentation at Sharingwood is just one stop during a northwest speaking tour that includes a keynote address at Portland’s Village Building Convergence, another slideshow on Whidbey Island, and a workshop at the National Cohousing Conference in Seattle.
Sharingwood Cohousing Community was founded in 1982 with the purchase of 38 acres adjacent to Lost Lake. Home construction began in 1986, and today there are over 100 residents in 25 homes. The quiet, wooded property includes playgrounds, playfields, organic gardens, streams, campgrounds and, especially prized by residents, a 23-acre land conservancy greenbelt with trails, wetlands, forests and a wide variety of wildlife. The Sharingwood Common House, built in 1996, hosts community meals and meetings, in addition to events such as the Ecovillages slideshow this month.
