Paul,
I think you've got a great webpage for lawn care. I've a question or two I hope you'll address. You should know I'm from the Southwest, now I live in Madison WI, never seen so much grass in my life!
I have a big lawn (for me anyway), much of it is shaded by a BIG willow, (maybe 40 feet tall). I'll mow high from now on. I trim the Willow some, but am lazy about it. The lawn gets lots of shade. The soil is clay. The grass is sort of patchy. Part of the front yard gets a lot more sun than the rest of the yard. I've read your advice and posts to the webpage. I would summarize the advice this way: put down some compost where it's patchy, fertilize it, maybe seed some yarrow or clover, but don't worry about overseeding. When the fall comes, spread the willow and other leaves around the yard (thanks for the Francis/God dialog, hahahaha).
Have I got this about right?
Besides yarrow and Roman Cham, would you recommend something else to seed, something that looks like grass?
Anything else you care to share?

My recommendation for you is to get a big chair and set it up under the willow. Enjoy your tree and your lawn.
I think you are already doing plenty. Just mow high and be patient! If want more growies, add some organic lawn fertilizer once in a while.
